Members of the Internet Explorer team are once again putting their party hats on for an anniversary party, as Microsoft’s in-house browser got to see daylight for the first time 18 years ago today.
Internet Explorer 1, the first version of the browser developed by Microsoft, was officially launched on August 16, 1995. It was based on code belonging to Spyglass Mosaic developed by Spyglass Inc., a company that provided source code to many other large firms trying to step into the browser world.
The first version of the browser was made available in Windows 95 and was developed by a team comprising only six people.
Today, Internet Explorer is one of the top browsers in the world, with statistics provided by market researchers across the world indicating that it’s being used by more than 50 percent of the consumers worldwide.
